The Segun & Toun Gbadegesin Family Foundation (STGFF): An organization that dedicates the resources available to it to the promotion of educational opportunities for young men and women of Oke-Ogun in general, and Okeho and Eruwa in particular through competitive scholarships for higher education, and health insurance premiums for the needy for greater access to good, especially preventive healthcare.

PROFESSOR SEGUN GBADEGESIN

Born on December 20 1945 to Pa Joseph Olanrewaju Gbadegesin and Mama Alice Moriyeba, the educational journey of Segun Gbadegesin began in 1951 at First Baptist Primary School, Isia, Okeho. In 1958, he was admitted to the Baptist Secondary Modern School, Koso Iseyin and left with his certificate in December 1960. He then began the next phase of his education at the Local Authority Teacher Training College, Oyo, where he received the Grade III Teachers’ Certificate in 1963. He taught for two years and was admitted to the African Church Teacher Training College, Ifako, Agege, in January 1966. He received the Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in December 1967. He took the GCE Ordinary Level in 1967, worked for three years as teacher and bank clerk before beginning his university education in 1970 at the then University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University) from where he finished with a First Class Honors in Government/Philosophy/Economics (GPE) in June 1974.

Gbadegesin received the Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1980. He has taught at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, where he served as Head of Department and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Colgate University, Hamilton, New York. 

Gbadegesin joined Howard University, Washington, DC in July 1992 as Professor and Chairman of the Department of Philosophy until June 30 2001. He served as Associate Dean for the Division of Humanities in the College of Arts and Sciences from July 2010 to June 2012 and as Interim Dean of the College from July 2012 to December, 2014. Professor Gbadegesin retired from Howard University in June 2016.

Gbadegesin’s research interests include ethics, cross-cultural bioethics, social and political philosophy, and Africana philosophy. His publications include African Philosophy: Traditional Yoruba Philosophy and Contemporary African Realities (Lang, 1991); Ethics, Higher Education, and Social Responsibility (co-edited with Joyce Ladner, Howard University Press, 1996); and many articles in professional journals, including Bioethics. He is also serving as reviewer for many journals including Developing World Bioethics and American Journal of Bioethics.

CHIEF (MRS.) FELICIA ADETUON GBADEGESIN

Born on November 20, 1948, to Pa Adepoju Ajani and Mama Alice Atowuromola, Chief (Mrs.) Felicia Adetoun Gbadegesin attended the L. A. School, New Eruwa from 1955 to 1960. From there she proceeded to Baptist Secondary Modern School, Orita Eruwa from 1961 to 1963 and received the Secondary Modern School Certificate in 1963. In January 1965, she gained admission to Baptist Women’s Teacher Training College, Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, and received the Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in December 1967. In March, 1970, Adetoun Adepoju and Segun Gbadegesin were joined together in holy matrimony.

In June 1977, Adetoun received the Associateship Diploma in Education from the University of Ife. Later that year, with her husband, she proceeded to the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA where she obtained the B. Sc. (Education) in December 1979. In June 1987, she received the M. Sc. (Guidance & Counseling) degree from the University of Ife.

A teacher most of her life, Mrs. Gbadegesin, served in various institutions including the Okeho/Iganna Grammar School from 1971 to 1975; Sacred Heart Convent School, Idikan, Ibadan, from 1970 to 1971; New Eden School, Mokola, Ibadan, from July 1975 to December 1975; St. Paul Primary School, Aiyegbaju, Ile-Ife, from January 1976 to July 1977, and Our Lady’s Girls High School, Modakeke, Ile-Ife from 1981 to 1987. 

Mrs. Gbadegesin joined the University of Ife in 1987 as an Administrative Officer before relocating to the US with her family in 1989. She served with the District of Columbia Public School System as Special Education Teacher from 1994 to 2010 when she retired from active public service. 

Mrs. Gbadegesin’s love for education and her teacher training and counseling skills have made a great deal of difference in her parenting abilities and it has reflected positively especially on the children. She has been a pillar of strength for the family.

Mrs. Gbadegesin is an ordained deaconess of Alafia Baptist Church, Mount Rainier, Maryland, USA.

Professor and Deaconess (Mrs.) Gbadegesin are blessed with children and grandchildren.

Dr.Oluwoye J.O. is currently a Professor of Transportation and Environmental Health, and Director Center for Urban and Rural Research (CURR), Alabama A&M University.  He previously lectured and practised as a Town Planner, Land Economist (Land-use and Development), Environmental Planner, and Traffic & Transportation Planner in Australia, America and Africa (Nigeria).

Dr.Oluwoye's previous publications and current research focus on the use of Applied Quantitative and Qualitative in Public Health, Food Security and Safety, Environmental and Management of the Built-Up areas including disaster and emergency traffic evacuation management using Intelligent Transport Systems.

Dr.Oluwoye has a Diploma in Cartography&Remote sensing from Briar Cliff College, NY.USA. BSc in Urban and Regional Planning with minor in Estate Management from University of Wisconsin-Madison,USA., Master in City Planning from Howard University,Washington D.C., and Ph.D.in Traffic and Transportation Planning from the University of New South Wales,Australia.

He is a Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport, the American Planning Association, the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, the American Congress on Surveying and Mapping, the Road Engineering Association of Asia and Australasia, the Australian Institute of Traffic and Management, and also the World Congress on Transport Research.

Mr. Leke Adekoya, CPA, is an accountant by training and a teacher at heart. He is currently a Senior Tax Manager at Host Hotels and Resorts, a Fortune 500 company and world’s leader in the hospitality and hotel industry. During a more than 20-year career with company, he has been a part of middle-level leadership group to brainstorm on ways to improve office working conditions and use technology innovation to increase productivity without sacrificing human resources which are the backbones of the company’s “first-in class’ status and its strategic advantages.

Through numerous company-sponsored events, he has clocked in countless volunteer hours for humanitarian organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, So Other May Eat, USO, and raised funds for Best Buddies, American Heart Association, St. Jude’s Children Hospital, just to name a few. But he derives greatest satisfaction for each hour he spends teaching middle school students Finance and Accounting at the local Junior Achievement Finance Parks of Montgomery County and Prince Georges County in Maryland. The list is long of high school students he has coached who graduated from or pursuing their dream career in various higher institutions of learning around the world.

Leke is an avid runner and gardener. He enjoys tooling around his backyard at spring time, growing vegetables and tropical plants.  He is infused with the farmer’s son sensibility that never abates.

Mr. Adekoya earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in Accounting from Howard University in Washington DC and is a licensed Certified Public Accountant in the State of Maryland. He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs and a past member of Maryland Association of CPAs, National Association of Black Accountants, Capital Area Chapter, and the Treasurer of his local Toastmaster Club.

Dr. Ibrahim Adebare Moshood is a native of Okeho in Kajola local government area, Oyo state. He attended L A School Olele, Okeho from where he proceeded to AUD Secondary Modern school Okeho for 1 year.

Dr. Moshood attended Oyo state College of Arts and Science Ile Ife from 1982-1985. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1991.

He migrated to South Africa in 1995, where he worked for 11 years in public and private health care. He also obtained a master's degree in Family medicine from the University of Pretoria in 2000.

Dr. Moshood migrated to Canada in 2006 and has been practicing as a family physician in the town of Drumheller in Alberta, Canada since then.

Dr. Ibrahim Adebare Moshood is a native of Okeho in Kajola local government area, Oyo state. He attended L A School Olele, Okeho from where he proceeded to AUD Secondary Modern school Okeho for 1 year.

Dr. Moshood attended Oyo state College of Arts and Science Ile Ife from 1982-1985. He graduated from Obafemi Awolowo University in 1991.
